# Skyplanr

> Skyplanr is an AI drone mission planner from Apperio AS in Norway: describe the job, and it plans a waypoint mission around your target with terrain and obstacle heights, airspace, weather and light, checks it with 91 rule-based checks and sends it to DJI Fly or DJI Pilot 2. The pilot is always in command.

## Key facts

- What it is: a web app that plans DJI waypoint missions for real-estate shoots, roof and facade inspection, mapping and cinematic B-roll from a short brief, plus planning tools for FPV pilots who fly by hand. English and Norwegian.
- Planning: an AI planning agent built on Anthropic's Claude models reads the place, plans the shots and explains every choice. Median planning time 6.7 minutes (3.5–10.8 min) over 4 test jobs; asking for changes takes about 2.1 minutes.
- Validator: a separate rule-based program, not a model, runs 91 checks at every waypoint and every 2 m along each leg. Its limits: at least 5 m from buildings and laser-measured obstacles, at most 120 m above the ground, at most 500 m from takeoff (visual line of sight), estimated flight time at most 70% of the drone's rated time, plus return-to-home, geo-zones and weather. Only a plan that passes is saved.
- Coverage, Norway: Kartverket's national laser data at 1 m for terrain, roofs and trees, official geo-zones, the land register for property lines, and MET Norway's forecast.
- Coverage, Dubai: planned to the DCAA rules, the 1:1 distance rule and the permits each flight needs; heights are estimated, so the margins are wider (10 m above obstacles, 8 m from buildings).
- Coverage, everywhere else: open terrain, building and tree data (USGS 3DEP lidar in the US, satellite tree heights, Overture and Google Open Buildings); they are estimates, so it keeps 30 m above the highest terrain within 30 m and leaves close work to the pilot.
- Several flights: a job over the battery budget or 200 waypoints is split into flights from the same takeoff, each validated on its own and ending with return-to-home; up to 1000 waypoints per mission.
- DJI Fly: missions install in DJI Fly for the DJI Mini 4 Pro, DJI Mini 5 Pro, DJI Air 3, DJI Air 3S, DJI Mavic 3 Pro and DJI Mavic 4 Pro. Free exports for other apps: DJI Pilot 2 KMZ (DJI Matrice 30, Matrice 4 and Mavic 3 Enterprise series), Litchi CSV, QGroundControl .plan, KML and GeoJSON.
- Before the flight: a 3D preview, a waypoint editor that re-checks at once, a client link to approve the shot list, and a day-of-flight card with 7 measured items (wind at height, gusts, rain, temperature, visibility, Kp index, daylight).
- FPV tools: a spot check of the open-category rules, line of sight and radio shadow out to 2 km from laser heights, and a one-take previz with up to 60 points, for the DJI Avata 2, DJI Avata 360, whoops and micros under 250 g, cinewhoops and 5-inch and 7-inch quads.
- Pricing, excl. VAT: Free, 3 AI plans a month. Pilot, €49 / 549 kr a month (€490 / 5 490 kr a year), 10 AI plans a month. Team, €89 / 999 kr per seat a month (€890 / 9 990 kr a year), 10 AI plans per seat, shared. An AI plan is one finished mission planned from a brief; changes, imports, exports, edits and the FPV tools never use one.

## What it is not

- It does not fly the drone. It plans and checks; the pilot flies and is always in command.
- Its checks are advice built from data, not a permission. The pilot checks the site, the zones, NOTAMs and the rules before take-off.
- It has no live NOTAMs or live airspace restrictions: airspace comes from official zone data and links.
- Mapping gives photogrammetry-ready overlap, not survey-grade accuracy (about 1–3 m absolute without RTK).

## Good fit / not a fit

- Good fit: pilots who fly waypoint missions in DJI Fly with the DJI Mini 4 Pro, DJI Mini 5 Pro, DJI Air 3, DJI Air 3S, DJI Mavic 3 Pro and DJI Mavic 4 Pro.
- Good fit: real-estate shoots, roof and facade inspection, mapping grids and cinematic B-roll, planned before the site visit.
- Good fit: sites in Norway and the US, where building and tree heights come from lidar (in Norway the terrain too; US terrain is a global elevation model).
- Good fit: pilots who fly with DJI Pilot 2 (enterprise drones), Litchi or QGroundControl, through the free exports.
- Not a fit: survey work that needs absolute accuracy without ground control (about 1–3 m off without RTK), or turning photos into an orthophoto: Skyplanr plans the flight, a photogrammetry tool processes the photos.
- Not a fit: close-in work outside Norway. Elsewhere, the US included, the route keeps 30 m above the highest terrain nearby and close shots are left to the pilot; Dubai uses estimated heights with wider margins.
- Not a fit: a DJI Fly mission for a drone outside the list above.
